Fatal Sautee wreck claims Josie-Tatum Mattox Carlson – Obituary
Josie-Tatum Mattox Carlson, a 21-year-old resident of Sautee-Nacoochee, was identified as the passenger who lost her life in a severe collision Tuesday morning on GA 17. Carlson was traveling with her husband, 21-year-old Ethan Carlson, who was driving a Dodge Ram when it collided with a Ford F-150 and subsequently crashed into trees.
The incident occurred around 7:16 a.m. on Nov. 12 near Apache Way. Preliminary reports from the Georgia State Patrol (GSP) indicate that Ethan Carlson was driving southbound on GA 17 when he veered off the shoulder, overcorrected, and crossed the centerline. This caused the Dodge to spin, striking the left front of the Ford driven by David Mills, 54, of Cornelia. After the impact, the Dodge left the road, descending an embankment and hitting several trees.
Emergency personnel transported both Carlsons to Northeast Georgia Medical Center, where Josie-Tatum succumbed to her injuries. Ethan Carlson remains hospitalized with serious injuries. The GSP’s Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team is investigating the crash, which led to a temporary closure of GA 17 for more than three hours.
