Fatal Route 322 crash in Derry Township claims life of Zachary Bautz – Obituary
Zachary Bautz, a 28-year-old resident of Maple Shade, New Jersey, tragically lost his life in a crash on Route 322 early Monday morning. The incident occurred around 6:15 a.m. when the box truck Bautz was driving veered into a roadside message board while traveling west, according to Derry Township police.
After colliding with the board, the truck hit a concrete barrier, ascended an embankment, and ultimately struck the Fiddlers Elbow Road overpass head-on. The impact caused the truck to overturn, trapping Bautz inside. Emergency responders pronounced him dead at the scene.
The accident led to the closure of Route 322 until approximately 3:15 p.m. as crews worked to safely extricate Bautz, clear the scene, and assess any damage to the overpass. Derry Township police are continuing their investigation and request that any witnesses contact Sgt. Jana Klinger at 717-534-2202 or submit information through CrimeWatch.
