Deana Stevens dies in fatal Syracuse car crash

Fatal Syracuse crash death of Deana Stevens – Obituary.

Deana D. Stevens, a 60-year-old resident of Syracuse, lost her life in a single-vehicle accident near Sunnycrest Park on November 2. Her car collided with a tree on Shotwell Park and burst into flames. Family members confirmed her death, noting their disbelief given her reputation as a cautious and focused driver.

Deana, the youngest of 10 siblings, was known for her lively and caring nature. Her family described her as a “social butterfly” who could engage with anyone, even strangers. She worked for many years as a bartender in local establishments, including the B & B Lounge, and later served as a substitute teacher and volunteer foster grandparent in the Syracuse City School District.

Her niece, Tralishia Newton, recalled how Deana’s older siblings often doted on her, while her cousin Celeste Akweta Hinds remembered her as the family’s peacemaker. Deana was also a loving grandmother to four grandchildren, frequently driving them to work, organizing picnics, and supporting them unconditionally.

Despite facing health challenges, including surviving multiple heart attacks nine years ago, Deana maintained her positive outlook and love for life. Her family believes she may have experienced a medical emergency, possibly another heart attack, which led to the crash. Witnesses attempted to assist Deana before the vehicle was engulfed in flames.

A funeral service for Deana Stevens will be held on Saturday at Well Hope Christian Church. Her family is choosing to focus on her vibrant life and the love she shared with others.
