Fatal Bakersfield car crash deaths of Ignacio Javier Banderas Hernandez and Krystal Rubi Reynaga – Obituary
A high-speed collision at Kern and Niles streets in Bakersfield on October 13 claimed the lives of 29-year-old Ignacio Javier Banderas Hernandez and 26-year-old Krystal Rubi Reynaga, both of Wasco.
Authorities reported that Hernandez, driving a vehicle northbound on Kern Street, ran a stop sign and collided with a westbound Bakersfield police vehicle. Hernandez was ejected from the car and pronounced dead at the scene. Reynaga, a passenger in the car, also died from her injuries.
Tragically, neither occupant was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. A 2-year-old boy in the car suffered severe injuries as he was not secured in a car seat or wearing a seatbelt.
The two officers in the police vehicle sustained minor injuries in the crash, which occurred around 5:40 a.m. Investigators determined that Hernandez’s car was traveling at a high speed when it entered the intersection against the traffic control.
The incident remains under investigation.
