Fatal Louisville Metro Corrections death of Shawnta Hughes – Obituary
Authorities have identified Shawnta Hughes, 53, as the woman who died inside Louisville Metro Corrections on November 6. Corrections officers found Hughes unresponsive and in medical distress around 4:30 p.m., but despite efforts, she could not be revived.
The cause of her death remains under investigation. At the time of the incident, the jail was over capacity, holding 1,409 inmates in a facility designed for 1,353.
Metro Corrections officials are continuing to investigate the circumstances of Hughes’ passing.
