Surveillance footage from the incident, recorded at 8:17 p.m., shows the vehicle leaving the area in haste, leaving behind a grim scene. Although Dennis was crossing within the crosswalk, it was noted that he was walking against the traffic signal at the time of the accident.
The driver involved in the fatal incident later surrendered to authorities. A police spokesperson clarified that while Dennis was in the crosswalk, he did not have the right of way as he was not following the traffic signal. This raises concerns about pedestrian safety and highlights the need for increased awareness from both drivers and pedestrians.
In the aftermath of the accident, a section of 3500 South, between 2200 West and Redwood Road, was closed for several hours, affecting traffic and marking the site of the unfortunate incident.
