Fatal Montpelier double homicide deaths of Jerry Gomes and Mary Gomes – Obituary
Jerry Gomes, 77, and Mary Gomes, 60, were tragically killed in their Montpelier, Vermont, home on Friday morning. Their son, 29-year-old Matthew Gomes, is accused of the killings.
The incident occurred at the family’s residence on Gallison Hill Road. Vermont State Police were alerted around 11:30 a.m. when Matthew Gomes called 911, admitting he had harmed his parents and requesting police and medical assistance.
Upon arriving, officers found both victims deceased. Autopsies confirmed the cause of death as blunt force trauma, with the manner ruled as homicide. Police believe the attack occurred in the early morning hours.
Matthew Gomes was taken into custody at the scene and charged in connection with the killings. He is being held without bail and is scheduled to appear in Vermont Superior Court in Barre for arraignment.
Authorities assured the public that there is no ongoing threat as everyone involved in the incident has been accounted for.
