Lillian McDaniel Konttinen dies in fatal Kealakekua Bay drowning
Fatal Kealakekua Bay drowning death of Lillian McDaniel Konttinen – Obituary
Lillian McDaniel Konttinen, 29, of Kailua-Kona, tragically passed away on November 10 after being found in Kealakekua Bay. At around 10:24 a.m., she was discovered floating face down in the water, wearing a mask, snorkel, fins, and a wetsuit.
Bystanders quickly retrieved Konttinen from the water, placed her on a paddleboard, and began performing CPR. A nearby boat assisted in transporting her to shore, where CPR was continued until emergency personnel arrived. The Hawaii Fire Department then took her to Kona Community Hospital, where she was pronounced dead. Authorities have launched a coroner’s inquest investigation to determine the exact cause of death and are seeking witnesses to come forward.
