Fatal New Orleans shooting death of Rasean “Turtle” Carter and Malachi “Pumpkin” Jackson – Obituary

Rasean “Turtle” Carter, 21, and Malachi “Pumpkin” Jackson, 19, both from Marrero, Louisiana, tragically lost their lives in a mass shooting that occurred at a second-line parade in New Orleans on Sunday. The shooting also left 11 others wounded. The two men were identified by their family, with relative Britchel Williams sharing that despite Jackson being younger, he was Carter’s uncle, as Carter’s mother was Jackson’s sister. The pair were very close, having grown up together and often spending time together due to their similar ages.

The violence occurred during the 26th annual Nine Times Social Aid & Pleasure Club second-line parade, which is a popular event that draws large crowds through New Orleans’ 9th Ward neighborhoods, including Desire and Florida. The shooting took place in the 1800 block of Almonaster Avenue, where someone opened fire into the crowd, injuring ten people. Authorities are still investigating the incident.
