Fatal Cotton Tree Village, Belize traffic accident death of Zacharias Tescecum – Obituary

A 44-year-old man, Zacharias Tescecum, tragically lost his life Friday evening after being struck by a vehicle on the George Price Highway in Cotton Tree Village. The accident occurred around 5:50 p.m. when Paul Thompson, the Chief Executive Officer of the Ministry of Natural Resources, Petroleum, and Mining, was driving a 2020 Grey GMC Terrain SUV. Thompson told investigators that he saw Tescecum walking on the highway and swerved left to avoid hitting him. Despite his efforts, he still struck the pedestrian.

Tescecum was dragged about 160 feet beneath the vehicle before Thompson came to a stop. He was found face down with severe head and body injuries, including a broken right foot, and was unresponsive when emergency responders arrived. Tescecum was pronounced dead at the scene, and his body was later transported to the Western Regional Hospital for a post-mortem examination. Thompson has been served with a notice of intended prosecution, and samples were taken from him as part of the ongoing investigation.
