James Gathers Murphy, a 74-year-old resident of Hollywood, lost his life on the morning of November 19 in a tragic crash while riding his moped. The incident occurred at the intersection of Highway 162 and Salters Hill Road, as reported by the Charleston County Coroner’s Office on November 20.
Authorities stated that Murphy was heading westbound on Highway 162 and attempting to turn left onto Salters Hill Road when his moped collided with a passing vehicle. The impact caused the moped to veer off the road. The driver of the vehicle involved remained at the scene and fully cooperated with law enforcement.
