Fatal Jefferson Park stabbing death of Lacramioara Beldie – Obituary

Lacramioara Beldie, 54, was fatally stabbed Tuesday afternoon in the Jefferson Park neighborhood of Chicago. The Cook County Medical Examiner confirmed her identity, while the suspect, identified as 57-year-old Constantin Beldie, was later found dead.

The violent incident occurred in the 5600 block of West Leland Avenue. Witnesses reported hearing a woman screaming, followed by gunshots. According to police, an off-duty detective from the Area Four Detective Division witnessed the attack and attempted to intervene. The officer fired shots at the suspect, suffering a graze wound to his leg in the process.

Neighbor Thomas Desenfants described the scene as chaotic, recalling the terrifying sound of screams and gunfire. He reported calling 911 after realizing the severity of the situation. The suspect fled the scene in a silver minivan but was later discovered deceased inside the vehicle on West Leland Avenue.

Officials stated the officer was transported to Lutheran General Hospital in stable condition. Unfortunately, Lacramioara Beldie was pronounced dead at the scene. Police believe the attack was not random, with surveillance footage reportedly showing the suspect lying in wait before the attack.

The Chicago Civilian Office of Police Accountability (COPA) and Investigative Response Team are handling the case. As is standard procedure, the officer involved has been placed on administrative duties for 30 days. Authorities urge anyone with information to contact COPA.
