Ryan Fairrington, 43, was tragically killed alongside his dog in a hit-and-run early Wednesday morning in Live Oak, California. The incident occurred at the intersection of Seventh Avenue and Eddy Lane around 2:46 a.m. Fairrington, described as homeless by authorities, was walking his dog when both were struck by a southbound vehicle.
The California Highway Patrol reported that the driver fled the scene, leaving Fairrington and his dog with fatal injuries. Both were pronounced dead at the location.
Later that evening, the suspected driver, 54-year-old Pedro Martinez Urbano from Watsonville, turned himself in to law enforcement. He has since been arraigned on charges of vehicular manslaughter without gross negligence and hit-and-run resulting in death. Urbano pleaded not guilty and is scheduled to appear in court again on December 12, 2024.
Authorities continue their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the tragic accident.
