Tracy Simpson dies in fatal DC boating accident

Fatal DC boating accident death of Tracy Simpson – Obituary

Tracy Simpson, 63, of Capitol Heights, Maryland, tragically passed away after falling into the Anacostia River on November 18, 2024. The incident occurred at the District Yacht Club on Water Street, Washington, D.C., when Simpson was attempting to tie his boat to the pier. He lost his balance and fell into the water. A witness made an attempt to rescue him, but after a prolonged search by divers from the Metropolitan Police Department and DC Fire and EMS, Simpson’s body was recovered around 11 p.m. that evening. Despite initial rescue efforts, the conditions of the water, including poor visibility and a strong tide, led authorities to switch from rescue to recovery mode. Simpson was declared dead at the scene.
