Authorities have identified the individual killed in a deputy-involved shooting over the weekend as 21-year-old Dazaina Kian’te Lewis. The incident occurred at Kmart Plaza early Saturday morning, around 2:15 AM, according to the Greenville County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies arrived at the scene following reports of threats. Upon their arrival, Lewis allegedly confronted a deputy while wielding a knife. In response, a deputy discharged their firearm, striking Lewis.
Lewis was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment but succumbed to her injuries. The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) has taken over the investigation, which is standard procedure for shootings involving law enforcement officers across the state.
The deputies involved in the incident have been placed on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.
