Fatal Fresno County car crash claims the life of Isael Acevedo – Obituary.
Authorities have identified 18-year-old Isael Acevedo as the victim of a deadly car accident that occurred on Wednesday morning in Fresno County, leaving his family in mourning just before Thanksgiving. His passenger and friend, 18-year-old Jorge Medina, sustained minor injuries in the crash.
The California Highway Patrol reports that Acevedo and Medina were traveling westbound in a Honda Accord on Vino Avenue near Jim Savage Road around 7 a.m. when the vehicle veered off the road at high speed. The car struck an irrigation pipe and overturned multiple times, traveling roughly 200 feet into a nearby field.
Neither Acevedo nor Medina was wearing a seatbelt, and both were ejected from the vehicle. Acevedo was pronounced dead at the scene, while Medina suffered minor injuries.
Perfecto Gutierrez, a farm worker who witnessed the crash, described the heartbreak of seeing the aftermath. He and a coworker ran to assist, but there was little they could do for Acevedo. Medina borrowed Gutierrez’s phone to call his mother, who later shared that the two young men were close friends and that the crash happened just a mile from Acevedo’s home.
While receiving treatment in an ambulance, Medina reportedly became combative, biting two officers who attempted to restrain him. He was subsequently taken into custody on charges of assaulting a peace officer, with bail set at $30,000.
Investigators suspect alcohol may have been a contributing factor in the crash. Authorities are urging the public to avoid driving under the influence and seek alternative transportation if impaired.
The tragic incident serves as a reminder of the dangers of reckless driving and the importance of wearing seatbelts.
