Fatal Augusta double homicide death of William Horne and Carol Horne – Obituary
The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office has confirmed the deaths of William Horne, 49, and his wife Carol Horne, 52, who were found fatally shot early Wednesday morning at their residence in the Butler Creek mobile home park on Mystic Lane in Augusta, Georgia. Deputies responded to the scene at approximately 2:37 a.m., and both victims were pronounced dead by 3:20 a.m.
Tony Horne, 46, was arrested at the scene and charged with murder and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime. Authorities have yet to disclose the motive behind the shooting, but neighbors expressed shock over the tragic event, recalling recent interactions with the couple.
This double homicide adds to a growing trend of violent crime in the area, which has seen more than 180 homicides over the past two years across the CSRA region. Augusta, the largest city in the area, has been especially impacted by this surge in violence. Just days before, another shooting in Augusta claimed two lives, further alarming local residents.
The Richmond County Coroner’s Office has scheduled autopsies for the victims, and the investigation is ongoing.
