Fatal Chicago shooting death of Ignacio Mendiola – Obituary

A 62-year-old man, identified as Ignacio Mendiola, was fatally shot on Thanksgiving afternoon in Garfield Park, Chicago. The shooting occurred at approximately 3:21 p.m. on West Monroe Street, where Mendiola was struck by gunfire that came through a window of what appeared to be a second-floor apartment. He was rushed to Mt. Sinai Hospital and initially listed in critical condition, but police later confirmed his death.

 

Authorities have arrested 29-year-old Gad Hughes of Cicero, Illinois, in connection with the murder. Hughes, who was apprehended on Friday in the 200 block of West Garfield Boulevard, faces charges of first-degree murder and felony possession of heroin.
