Fatal Lovejoy police shooting death of Jean A. Cesar – Obituary

Jean A. Cesar, 40, a resident of Hampton, Georgia, was fatally shot during an encounter with Lovejoy police on Saturday morning. According to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI), the incident occurred after officers approached a suspicious vehicle in a park.

 

Authorities stated that when officers attempted to check the registration of a black Audi in the parking lot near City Park, they encountered Cesar in the front seat. Witnesses said he appeared to rack the slide of a handgun. Police ordered him to drop the weapon, but he allegedly pointed the gun at an officer, prompting the officer to fire. Cesar was pronounced dead at the scene, while no officers were injured.

 

Local residents expressed alarm about the incident occurring so close to the park and police station. The GBI spent several hours gathering evidence, and the case will be reviewed by the Clayton County District Attorney’s Office after the investigation is complete.

 

Cesar’s body was sent to the GBI Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy. Lovejoy police have not provided additional comments.
