Fatal Mission, Texas ATV accident death of Jariel Cantu – Obituary

Authorities in Mission, Texas, reported the tragic death of 5-year-old Jariel Cantu following an ATV crash that occurred on November 26. The incident took place on the family’s property near the 9900 block of North Iowa Road.

Jariel, along with his 11-year-old brother Jesse Cantu, was riding an ATV when it collided with a tree. Both boys were discovered by their parents, who immediately transported them to a hospital for emergency treatment. Tragically, Jariel succumbed to his injuries shortly after the crash, while Jesse remains hospitalized in critical but stable condition.

Family members have organized a fundraiser to help cover medical and funeral expenses. On Saturday, they hosted an event selling chicken plates and held a candlelight vigil in Edinburg to honor Jariel and pray for Jesse’s recovery.

The Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office confirmed the incident was an accident and stated that no criminal charges have been filed against the parents at this stage. Investigators are continuing to collect information, including witness statements, to understand the circumstances surrounding the crash.

This heartbreaking incident has left the community grieving as they come together to support the Cantu family during this devastating time.
