Fatal Edinburg police shooting death of Leroy Villarreal – Obituary

Leroy Villarreal, 36, was fatally shot by Edinburg police officers on Tuesday. The incident occurred in the 2800 block of East Rogers Road.

 

Authorities reported that Villarreal appeared to be armed and approached the officers in what they described as an “aggressive” manner, prompting them to open fire. He was transported to a hospital, where he later died from his injuries.

 

Following the shooting, multiple officers involved were placed on administrative leave. However, it remains unclear whether the leave is paid or unpaid.

 

The Texas Rangers have taken over the investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
