A tragic incident occurred over the weekend in Compton, where a young child was fatally shot. The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department responded to the shooting, which took place around 7:30 p.m. Saturday on the 15000 block of Haskins Avenue. The victim has been identified by his relatives as 9-year-old Princeton Jones. Family members shared that the child was shot outside his grandmother’s house.

 

His loved ones expressed their heartbreak in a statement, calling the shooting a senseless act and stating they are searching for answers as the investigation progresses.

Princeton is being remembered for his warmth and intelligence. According to an online fundraiser set up in his memory, he was a “beacon of joy,” whose humor and infectious smile brightened every room.

 

At this time, authorities have not disclosed any arrests or suspect descriptions related to the shooting. As the investigation continues, a vigil for Princeton will be held on Sunday at 4 p.m. at 15853 Haskins Avenue in Compton.
