Authorities have identified one of the law enforcement officers involved in a deadly shooting that occurred over the weekend in Rochester, Indiana. The Fulton County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that Senior Deputy Ryan Haney was the officer who fired his weapon while responding to a domestic disturbance at an address on Monroe Street on Saturday morning.
According to police reports, Steven Harding, 37, of Rochester, allegedly pointed a gun at Deputy Haney and another officer while they were on the scene. In response, the officers fired their weapons, striking Harding, who was later pronounced dead at the location.
The incident is being investigated by the Indiana State Police, and once completed, the case will be reviewed by the Fulton County Prosecutor’s Office. Both Deputy Haney and the other unnamed officer involved have been placed on administrative leave as part of standard protocol. The identity of the second officer involved has not yet been released.
