Eighteen-year-old Tiernan Doherty-Kelly from Carndonagh tragically lost his life in a single-vehicle collision early Sunday morning on the R244 at Ballinlough, near Buncrana. The crash occurred shortly after 5 a.m., with Doherty-Kelly, the driver and sole occupant of the vehicle, sustaining fatal injuries.
A dedicated sportsman, Doherty-Kelly was a valued member of Carndonagh FC and CLG Charn Domhnaigh. In light of his passing, both clubs gathered the community together for support, and several local events, including a Christmas carols gathering and a bazaar, were postponed as a mark of respect.
Local businesses also expressed their condolences, remembering him for his friendly nature and infectious smile. GardaĆ are urging anyone who may have witnessed the collision or captured footage between 4:30 a.m. and 5:30 a.m. to come forward to assist with the investigation.
