Fatal Melbourne shooting death of Jack Gilmour and Charlyz Hayter – Obituary
Jack Gilmour, 29, and Charlyz Hayter, 19, have been named as the victims of a deadly shooting in Melbourne, believed to have been the result of a botched burglary. Authorities say the tragic incident occurred early yesterday morning at a residence on Parson Street in Rye.
According to reports, Gilmour was inside his home when two individuals allegedly broke in around 4 a.m., demanding money and keys. In the ensuing confrontation, Gilmour reportedly fired a shotgun at one of the intruders, Hayter, who was fatally struck at the scene.
Moments later, several gunshots were fired at Gilmour by the second intruder, fatally wounding him. The gunman then fled the area, and police have yet to make any arrests in connection with the crime.
Gilmour’s mother was seen at the scene, visibly distraught and embracing one of her son’s dogs. Hayter, a 19-year-old known for her talent as a gymnast, has been mourned by friends and family.
Authorities continue to investigate the incident, searching for the second suspect involved in the deadly shooting.
