Fatal Bergen County crash death of Angel S. Uzhca Yadaicela – Obituary

A man from Newark, Jose M. Sumba Astudillo, is facing multiple charges after a crash early on December 1st in Hasbrouck Heights that resulted in the death of one passenger and left another critically injured. The single-vehicle accident occurred shortly before 2:30 a.m. when the car struck a highway divider on Route 46 West, according to the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office.

 

One of the passengers, 57-year-old Angel S. Uzhca Yadaicela from Elmwood Park, was rushed to Hackensack University Medical Center, where he later succumbed to his injuries. Another unidentified passenger was also taken to the hospital and was listed in critical condition on Monday.

 

Initially, Astudillo, 36, told authorities he was a passenger in the vehicle and claimed the driver fled the scene after the crash. However, further investigation revealed that Astudillo had been behind the wheel at the time of the incident. He was later charged with providing a false report to law enforcement and hindering the apprehension of himself, in addition to obstructing the administration of justice.

 

As the investigation continued, it was discovered that Astudillo was intoxicated during the crash. He now faces new charges, including death by auto, aggravated assault, and multiple charges related to operating the vehicle while unlicensed. Astudillo remains in custody at the Bergen County Jail.
