Luis Morales, 28, lost his life following a shooting that occurred in the parking lot of City Market in Woodland Park on Black Friday. The incident, which happened around 5:30 p.m., remains under investigation by authorities.
According to Woodland Park police, the shooting stemmed from a confrontation during a child custody exchange. Witness accounts indicate that Morales allegedly threatened his child’s mother’s boyfriend during the exchange. In response, the boyfriend reportedly drew a firearm and discharged a single round, striking Morales.
Emergency responders provided medical treatment at the scene before Morales was transported to a hospital in Colorado Springs, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
The 29-year-old individual involved in the shooting remained at the scene and has been cooperating with investigators. The Colorado Bureau of Investigation is overseeing the case and has confirmed that the suspect has been released while the investigation is ongoing.
