A deadly shooting occurred early Sunday morning outside an event venue in Hollywood, Florida, leaving two victims dead and two others injured. One of the deceased victims has been identified as Octavius Jackson, a 44-year-old former football player who had played at both Miami Carol City High School and Florida State University.
Jackson, a standout recruit in 1998 according to the Sun Sentinel, was among four people shot around 1:30 a.m. near Jaycee Hall, a venue hosting a family celebration and baby shower.
While investigators have not released the names of the other victims, they confirmed two individuals died from their injuries at the scene or later at the hospital.
Authorities are continuing their investigation and seeking individuals who may have information about the incident.
While no arrests have been made, detectives are following leads. Meanwhile, the venue’s manager has expressed disbelief over the violence, noting the event had been a peaceful family gathering.
The venue is now taking additional security measures to prevent future incidents, including enhanced surveillance and stricter alcohol policies. The community is being urged to come together and end the cycle of gun violence.
