Fatal Sugar Grove Township crash death of Ariel Martinez – Obituary
Ariel Martinez, a 48-year-old resident of Batavia, Illinois, was identified as the victim of a single-vehicle crash that occurred early Saturday morning in the 2S800 block of Bliss Road in Sugar Grove Township.
According to Kane County officials, the crash took place around 2:53 a.m. when Martinez, driving a Chevrolet Impala northbound, lost control and struck a utility pole. Emergency responders extricated him from the vehicle and transported him to the hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
The Kane County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that Martinez was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash, though the vehicle’s airbags did not deploy.
Family members shared that Martinez was a Chicago Golden Gloves boxer. A funeral mass is scheduled for Thursday at 10 a.m. at St. Rita of Cascia Catholic Church in Aurora.
