Fatal St. Augustine industrial accident death of Cooper Lyles – Obituary

Cooper Lyles, an 18-year-old plant operator, tragically lost his life in an industrial accident at a St. Augustine road paint plant on December 2, 2024. Lyles was found at a Traffic Material Supplier plant on Industrial Drive near State Road 16 at around 10:40 a.m. by responding crews who pronounced him dead at the scene.

The incident is under investigation by the St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office, with a medical examiner to determine the cause of death. OSHA is expected to investigate the plant’s operations. Lyles was responsible for handling the plant’s paint bags and preparing them for distribution.
