Fatal Lafayette house fire claims the life of Malayshia Conley, 19 – Obituary

Malayshia Conley, a 19-year-old resident of Lafayette, tragically lost her life in a house fire on December 2. Authorities reported that Conley was unable to escape the blaze, which occurred at a home on the 200 block of Latin Drive.

 

Firefighters from several departments, including Scott, Duson, Carencro, and Lafayette, arrived at the scene around 8:07 a.m. following reports of multiple individuals trapped inside the residence. By the time emergency responders arrived, two of the four occupants were already outside and required medical assistance for fire-related injuries. A third person escaped with minor injuries.

 

Firefighters conducted a search for Conley but were unable to rescue her from the hazardous conditions inside the home. A 44-year-old woman and her 21-year-old son were transported to a nearby hospital, where they are being treated for severe burns and smoke inhalation. Both remain hospitalized.

 

Two younger siblings of the family were not home at the time, as they were at school when the fire broke out.

 

The investigation into the cause of the fire is ongoing, and officials plan to release further details as they become available.
