Montez Loftin, a Wilmington resident, tragically lost his life early Sunday morning, December 1, 2024, after being struck by a vehicle in Pender County, North Carolina. The incident occurred around 1:40 a.m. on I-40 near Rocky Point when 18-year-old Ethan Zander Melton, driving while intoxicated, hit two pedestrians.
Loftin was pronounced dead at the scene, while the second pedestrian was hospitalized. Melton, who was arrested, faces charges including driving under the influence, felony death by vehicle, and multiple felony hit-and-run charges.
