On November 11, 2024, 61-year-old Tracy E. Cary was tragically killed in a hit-and-run accident on City Avenue in Bala Cynwyd, Lower Merion Township. The incident occurred when Jamal McCullough, 37, allegedly struck Cary while driving southbound on his way to work. Cary, who was homeless but a former Philadelphia resident, was in a wheelchair at the time of the crash.
A passing driver saw her and called 911, trying to shield her from traffic. Cary was transported to Lankenau Medical Center but later pronounced dead. McCullough fled the scene, only to return minutes later, as seen in surveillance footage.
He later confessed to the crime, stating that he thought he hit an empty wheelchair, and eventually surrendered to police. He faces several charges, including causing an accident involving death and tampering with evidence.
