Vanessa O’Callaghan, 36, died on December 4, 2024, after being violently assaulted in Cork City over the weekend. She was discovered outside the Savoy Shopping Centre on St Patrick’s Street on Sunday, suffering from severe head injuries. O’Callaghan had been attending a soup kitchen when she became the victim of an attack by three individuals.
Despite CPR efforts by volunteers and paramedics, her condition worsened, and she was placed on a ventilator at Cork University Hospital. Tragically, she passed away on Wednesday. O’Callaghan, a native of Cork City, had been a regular user of local homeless services.
Gardaí are investigating the case as a potential murder and have set up an incident room at Anglesea Garda station. They are appealing for any witnesses or video footage to assist in the investigation.
