Fatal Rochester, New York pit bull attack death of Velma Leake, 92 – Obituary
Velma Leake, 92, was found dead on the evening of December 3, 2024, at her home on Orange Street in Rochester, New York. Police responded to a call around 9 p.m. and discovered her lifeless inside the residence. It appears that Leake was mauled by a pit bull owned by the family living in the home. One of her relatives discovered the attack after waking up and going downstairs.
While the Monroe County Medical Examiner’s Office is investigating the cause of death, it’s unclear whether the mauling directly caused her death or if other factors were involved.
The dog is now in custody with Rochester Animal Services for further investigation. Authorities are asking anyone with information to contact the Rochester Police Department.
