Wayne Cook, 70, of Schenectady, tragically lost his life in a fire that broke out at a two-family home on Brown Street on the evening of November 29. The fire, which started around 7 p.m., left Cook trapped inside, and he succumbed to smoke asphyxiation.

An explosion was reported as crews approached the building, with investigators later finding oxygen and butane cylinders that may have contributed to the blast.

The fire, which was extinguished by 8 p.m., was deemed accidental, and no other injuries were reported. Firefighters, police, and emergency responders worked together during the incident. Cook’s death marks a painful loss for his family and community as the investigation continues.
