Fatal Darke County crash death of Brian Owens – Obituary
A fatal crash occurred Thursday morning in Darke County involving a box van and a semi-truck, resulting in the death of 53-year-old Brian Owens from Dayton. According to the Darke County Sheriff’s Office, Owens was driving a 2023 Ford Transit box van eastbound on Hollansburg-Sampson Road at approximately 9:15 a.m. when he reportedly failed to stop at a stop sign, colliding with a 2000 Freightliner semi-truck traveling north on Alternate State Route 49 North.
Owens was pronounced dead at the scene, and his van came to a stop in a nearby ditch. The semi-truck driver, a 28-year-old man from Anna, was injured and taken to Wayne Healthcare for treatment before being released. The semi-truck then veered off the road, striking a utility pole and causing downed power lines. Emergency responders, including Arcanum police and fire teams, along with the county coroner’s office, are still investigating the crash.
