Atlanta police are investigating a shooting near Centennial Olympic Park that claimed the life of 18-year-old Dexter Devaughn Hoefer Savage Jr. late Wednesday evening.
The tragic incident reportedly began as an argument between two individuals over the sale of T-shirts during a concert at State Farm Arena. The dispute escalated into a violent altercation in a nearby parking lot on Nassau Street, about a block from the arena. Authorities responded to the scene shortly after 10:15 p.m., where Savage was discovered with gunshot wounds.
He was transported to Grady Memorial Hospital, but despite efforts by medical staff, he was pronounced deceased.
Lt. Andrew Smith from the Atlanta Police Department’s Homicide Unit stated that detectives are actively working on the case by gathering evidence, speaking with witnesses, and reviewing surveillance footage from the surrounding area.
The suspect remains unidentified, and no further information about the events leading up to the shooting has been disclosed. Earlier that evening, the band Creed had performed at the arena.
