Edward Fitzpatrick dies after truck overturns in Kansas river

Edward Fitzpatrick, 73, of Neosho Falls, passed away on Monday after his vehicle landed upside down in the Ninnescah River in Sumner County. The incident occurred around 2 p.m. on U.S. 81 when Fitzpatrick’s 2007 Chevy Silverado veered off the roadway for unknown reasons and entered the north ditch before plunging into the river.
Bystanders and deputies from the Sumner County Sheriff’s Office pulled Fitzpatrick from the water, and he was transported by EMS to a Wichita hospital. Despite rescue efforts, he was pronounced dead shortly before 3:30 p.m.
Authorities confirmed that Fitzpatrick was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. The cause of his departure from the roadway remains under investigation.
