Fatal Edison, New Jersey senior complex fire death of Kuo-Chun Chen – Obituary

A fire at the Inman Grove Manor senior housing complex in Edison, New Jersey, on Tuesday night tragically claimed the life of 101-year-old Kuo-Chun Chen.

 

According to reports from ABC 7, the fire began in the bedroom of the apartment Chen shared with his wife and spread through an open window to an upper unit. Emergency responders rescued the couple, but Chen suffered cardiac arrest and passed away on Wednesday. His wife was flown to Beth Israel Hospital, where she remained in critical condition as of Thursday.

 

Nearly 100 firefighters and police worked tirelessly to evacuate the complex, assisting over 100 residents, most of whom were aged 85 and older. Eight individuals were treated for smoke inhalation, but thanks to swift action, the situation was prevented from escalating further.

 

Edison Mayor Sam Joshi praised the rescue efforts, stating, “This could have been a lot worse, but I’m thankful our crews did an outstanding job.” By Thursday, at least 185 of the 240 evacuated units had been deemed safe for reentry.

 

The cause of the four-alarm fire remains under invePstigation.
