Fatal Bronx shooting death of Melquan Johnson – Obituary
Melquan Johnson, a 36-year-old man from Grymes Hill, Staten Island, was fatally shot in the Bronx on Thursday afternoon. Officers responding to a 911 call about an assault discovered Johnson with a gunshot wound to his head around 3:34 p.m. in the 600 block of E. 223rd Street near White Plains Road.
Emergency medical services transported Johnson to NYC Health and Hospitals/Jacobi Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead.
Investigators suspect a verbal altercation between Johnson and the perpetrator escalated into the shooting. The assailant fled on foot and remains at large. Police described the suspect as a man with a dark complexion, wearing black pants and a gray shirt.
No arrests have been made as the investigation continues.
