Fatal Council Bluffs house fire death of Peggy Lee Rayner – Obituary
Peggy Lee Rayner, 70, tragically lost her life in a house fire that occurred late on the night of December 4 in Council Bluffs. Firefighters responded to the blaze near South 20th Street and Seventh Avenue around 11:18 p.m., initially reporting a fire in the basement with a possible person still inside. Upon arrival, crews encountered smoke coming from the back of the house and quickly removed Rayner from the basement. Despite immediate life-saving efforts, she was later pronounced dead at the hospital.
In addition to Rayner, one other occupant suffered smoke inhalation and is currently in stable condition. Three others in the house were uninjured. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
