Raquel Luz Hernandez Arcos dies in fatal Corning shooting and arson
Fatal Corning shooting and arson death of Raquel Luz Hernandez Arcos – Obituary
Authorities in Tehama County have arrested a man accused of murdering Raquel Luz Hernandez Arcos, whose body was discovered after a suspicious fire at her Corning residence on November 30.
Firefighters from CAL FIRE responded to a blaze at a home on Kraft Avenue around 3:30 p.m. Upon extinguishing the flames, they found Hernandez’s body inside and alerted the Tehama County Sheriff’s Office. Investigators began examining the case as a potential homicide.
An autopsy conducted on December 3 confirmed Hernandez had been fatally shot before the fire. Detectives identified 25-year-old Carlos Alberto Perez as a suspect, revealing that he had allegedly been stalking Hernandez for several months leading up to the crime.
On the day of the incident, Perez reportedly went to Hernandez’s home armed with a firearm. After shooting her, he set the house on fire in an attempt to destroy evidence and fled the scene.
Authorities located Perez on December 4, arresting him for murder. He was found in possession of a “ghost gun,” an untraceable firearm, which he admitted to using during the shooting. Perez is now in custody at the Tehama County Jail.
Anyone with further information is urged to contact Detective Corry of the Tehama County Major Crimes Unit at (530) 529-7920.
