Karl Christopher Gibson, 45, was fatally shot by Titusville police during a traffic stop on Friday morning near South Washington Avenue and Country Club Drive.
Authorities reported that around 6:50 a.m., officers responded to a 911 call involving Gibson and his estranged wife. The woman alleged Gibson, who was under a no-contact order issued by a judge, was threatening her and pursuing her aggressively in their vehicles.
Officers initiated a traffic stop, but Gibson fled southbound along South Hopkins Avenue. Police deployed stop sticks to halt the suspect’s vehicle, but he continued driving to a residence on Meadow Lark Drive.
When Gibson exited his vehicle, he was reportedly armed. Officers, perceiving a threat, discharged their weapons. Gibson was taken to a hospital but was pronounced dead at 8:08 a.m.
No one else was injured during the incident. The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is conducting an investigation, with the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office handling the crime scene inquiry.
