Skylar Benjamin Haislip dies in fatal Currituck County shooting

Fatal Currituck County shooting death of Skylar Benjamin Haislip – Obituary

A deadly shooting in Currituck County, North Carolina, claimed the life of Skylar Benjamin Haislip on Friday evening.

 

Deputies from the Currituck County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to Wedgewood Drive in the Wedgewood Lakes subdivision at approximately 5:30 p.m. They discovered Haislip suffering from a gunshot wound. He succumbed to his injuries while being transported by Emergency Medical Services to a trauma center.

 

The suspect, identified as 32-year-old Michael Thomas Harris Jr., fled the scene after the shooting. Authorities deployed a K-9 unit and used cell phone tracking technology to locate him. Harris was apprehended just after midnight on Willow Drive.

 

After the Currituck County SWAT team secured the location, Harris was taken into custody and charged with first-degree murder. He is being held at the Currituck County Detention Center without bond.
