Jessinya Mina dies in fatal northeast Fresno accidental shooting
Fatal northeast Fresno accidental shooting death of Jessinya Mina – Obituary
Jessinya Mina, a 22-year-old mother of two, tragically lost her life last Friday in an accidental shooting at the Butterfly Grove Apartment complex in northeast Fresno. The incident occurred on Fresno Street and San Jose Avenue when her 2-year-old child accessed an unsecured firearm in the apartment.
According to Fresno Police, the toddler managed to reach the gun, which had not been properly stored, and discharged it while Mina was lying in bed. Officers arrived to find Mina’s boyfriend, 18-year-old Andrew Sanchez, attempting to take her to the hospital. Emergency responders transported her to the hospital, but she succumbed to her injuries.
Mina’s sister expressed deep grief and frustration, stating that Mina had repeatedly asked Sanchez not to keep a gun in their home. She described Mina as a loving and selfless young mother who was in the process of pursuing her career in cosmetology.
Police arrested Sanchez that evening on charges of negligent firearm storage and felony child endangerment. Although he has no prior criminal history, legal experts suggest he could face significant prison time if convicted.
Authorities emphasized the importance of proper firearm storage, especially in homes with children. Fresno Police reminded the public that free gun locks are available at their headquarters.
A GoFundMe campaign has been organized to assist with Mina’s funeral expenses and provide support for her two young children.
