Clara B. Blaxton, a 45-year-old woman from northeast Arkansas, was found dead inside a pickup truck following a police shooting incident on a Jefferson County highway this past weekend.
The incident began Sunday morning when officers from Festus and Crystal City responded to reports of shots fired near a White Castle on Highway A, close to Interstate 55. Police located the suspect’s truck, which had crashed into a concrete median and then spun into the northbound lanes near an Aldi and Dollar Tree.
The driver, who was wearing body armor and armed, stepped out of the truck, prompting officers from Crystal City to open fire. The suspect, who remains unnamed, was critically wounded and taken to a hospital.
Blaxton is believed to have been in a relationship with the suspect. The cause and manner of her death remain under investigation, with authorities working with law enforcement in Arkansas and the FBI.
