Cierra Pennington, 17, and Deontae Marchbanks, 19, tragically lost their lives in a double homicide on December 9, 2024, in the 6000 block of Blue Hills Road. The victims were found in the parking lot of the Charter Landing apartment complex with gunshot wounds. Pennington was later pronounced dead at a nearby hospital, while Marchbanks was declared dead at the scene.
Witnesses directed police to the scene after the shooting was reported around 3:30 p.m. The Kansas City Police Department is investigating the incident. This is the latest in a series of violent events in the area, with 49 calls made to the apartment complex this year. Local residents have voiced concerns about safety, with one neighbor recounting that their home was hit by stray gunfire.
