Jamin David Elkins, 46, of Mount Dora, Florida, was fatally shot by police in Etowah County, Alabama, following a domestic incident that escalated into gunfire on Wednesday. According to a statement from Rainbow City police, officers responded to reports of a domestic dispute that evolved into what was described as a “hostage situation.”
During the standoff, Elkins reportedly fired at officers, prompting them to return fire, which resulted in his death. The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency is now conducting an independent review of the incident at the request of the Rainbow City Police Department. Upon completion, the findings will be submitted to the Etowah County district attorney for further consideration.
Authorities formally identified Elkins on Thursday. He was a resident of Mount Dora, Florida, located approximately 30 miles from Orlando.
