Malachi Lancaster dies in fatal Florida hunting accident
Fatal Florida hunting accident death of Malachi Lancaster – Obituary
Malachi Lancaster, an 18-year-old senior football player at Newberry High School, tragically passed away on Sunday in a hunting accident near Gainesville. The Alachua County Sheriff’s Office responded to a 911 call that reported a shooting just off Williston Road, describing the incident as a hunting accident.
Lancaster, known for his leadership on and off the field, was a recent homecoming king at his school. His parents, pastors Joel and Sophie Lancaster, expressed their heartbreak through a social media statement.
Malachi’s close family friend, Gary Bracewell, who knew him for 10 years, described him as a loving, adventurous young man with an entrepreneurial spirit.
The Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission is investigating the incident, which appears to have been an accidental discharge of the firearm. Lancaster was transported to Shands Hospital but unfortunately succumbed to his injuries. A fundraiser has been organized to support the Lancaster family during this tragic time.
